The Steve Sexton Scholarship Fund

Steve Sexton pledged the Beta Epsilon Chapter of Sigma Chi at the University of Utah in September 1990 and was elected Consul in 1993.  Steve graduated with a major in mechanical engineering in 1994 and joined Teach for America where he taught Mathematics in South Central Los Angeles.   In 2002 Steve co-founded the Lighthouse Community Charter School in Oakland, CA where he focused on serving students from diverse backgrounds by providing them a community where they are valued and respected.

On July 28, 2014, Steve was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme Grade 4.  He battled this aggressive brain cancer for fifteen months remaining positive throughout the fight.  Steve passed away on October 30, 2015 leaving behind his wife Jenna, and three young children, Ruby, Luke, and Wyatt.  The positive impact that Steve had on his peers, friends, and community will last forever.  Integrity, wisdom, courage, loyalty, selflessness, congeniality, and high achievement describe who Steve Sexton was as a father, friend, and brother.
